Entwined Tales from the City 13 Dark Twisted Tales eBook AJ Armitt
These stories, which mix purely human drama and horror elements, all shape into an overall tale that comes almost full circle. While some of the stories have a supernatural element, the majority of the plots center on ordinary human failings of jealousy, greed, and cruelty. The overall archive isn't entirely bleak, though, and there are moments of second chances and even redemption. While the subject matter is very dark, there's relatively little gore and the violence and sexual references aren't exploitative.

Entwined Tales from the City 13 Dark Twisted Tales eBook AJ Armitt Reviews
Being a fan of the short stories, I knew I would probably be pleased with this book. It did not disappoint. I think the term "DARK" epitomises these tales to the "T"! It was fun to try to predict how the characters from the previous story would make an appearance in the current story.
A few of the plots got a little far fetched which made it a little difficult to keep on track. But the (eventual) main character had an interesting mind - seeing more than just what was visible. )
An absolutely brilliant first book, based on a premise of just a few degrees of grim separation - which could've just as easily gone horrendously wrong for the author. Instead, it's a marvelous read of suspenseful and frightening common threads. Not all of the stories are uniformly terrific - and a couple take risks that set them almost too far apart from the others, but I like the courage it took to go there and I applaud the skill it takes to meld the mostly normal with a bit of paranormal throughout. I'm not moving to this poor, besotted town any time soon, but I'll definitely read the second book!
I loved these stories. I always enjoy anthologies that are interconnected and this was a very enjoyable one with the exception of two stories that I wasn't interested in. The Tattoo was too weird for my taste and I didn't like the characters at all and the last story seemed too contrived and gave a weird angle to Detective Pearce which was never even hinted at during the rest of the book and really didn't seem to add anything to the story. Other than that it was great.
At first I didn't think I would like the concept and a few of the story-arcs are connected very tenuously but once I started reading I was hooked. The stories are a bit of a mixed bag of genres so there's bound to be at least one story that people will like. It takes me back a bit to Stephen King's short stories in that where the writing is good you don't mind drowning plausibility for a while. The characters are sometimes rather broadly drawn but in the short story genre (particularly horror) that can be okay. I did want to know more about one character and was left a bit unsatisfied but since there's a sequel (which I will be buying once it comes out) I'm hoping he'l be followed up on. This is definitely well-worth the price and gives me hope that the horror short story art form is not dead.
What a lovely little dark and twisted novel!! I loved the way the stories are seperate yet woven together... this book is Crash meets the Twilight zone - You have several different single stories, each deliciously evil, and then at the end when you realize they are all related, fantastic! I could not put this book down i was so engrossed (engrossed, perhaps an alternate title) although Entwined describes it perfectly.
The man that betray's his best friend; the dentist; the wife; the hookers; the priest; the cop; the doctor; the security guard; the bitch; tatoo's; succubus; evil... the angel and, of course, the devil! Oh and i almost forgot the Trolls!!
It is difficult to give a good review as too much detail would ruin (spoil) the story... as there are so many and each a short story at that. I will just say that I was engrossed, enthralled and anxious reading this book... had issue's turning off the kindle until the end... only 99 cents yet i would have paid much, much more! DEFINITELY A MUST READ!!!
As an avid fan of Stephen King and Dean Koontz; I give these two brilliant Authors each a category of their own in my . After all, thier brilliance is single to none! Well I am compelled to create a third for A. J. Armitt (yes...he is THAT good)!
As "Reader is to Author" I look forward to many years ahead developing an intimate relationship with his works ! I don't believe there is a Genre sufficient out there to describe the gory goodies he pumps out, but if there ever was a forefather for something new delivered this fresh ...Armitt is the one!
So arm yourself for Armitt and buckle in! I can't wait to line his pockets to twist my mind some more! He is worth every anxious penny!

For a first work, this was really good and considering the price, I'd say this is a 5 star value for people who like quirky and twisted horror tales.
PRO There is a great forward about how all of us are really more connected than we think and then the stories in the book are supposed to be a demonstration of that. I love the premise (reminds me of Thieve's World) where main characters in one story might become minor characters in other stories and how actions in one story lead to consequences in an other story. So while all the action takes place in the same locale, the stories are very different in their subject matter so there is something for everyone and I found myself constantly surprised. the only story which bored me was the Jack the Ripper story because I am so tired of that.
CONS Some of the stories are connected in brilliant and interesting ways but many of them are connected only by a character who (for example) escapes story one only to die in story two. I feel some more time could have been taken to really bring these characters together. Its a good try but it falls a little short. Second criticism is that some of the characters are a little shallow and need more development and need to "further their agenda" a little more. But again, its still good.
I would be happy to buy the sequel and I'd be willing to pay more for it!! Nice job.
