Gauge Alexander is done hiding who and what he is. After touring StoneCrow Estates—a community built for Skin Walkers—he accepts CEO, Monroe StoneCrow’s, offer of employment. As an accountant and Sentry for the estate, Gauge vows to live as he’d always dreamed, out in the open with no more secrets or regrets.
Ella Garret is on the run. After her sister’s suspicious death, Ella kidnaps her niece in hopes of keeping the child from suffering the same fate as her mother. With nowhere to go, she contacts an old friend, Stoney Lydon, who offers her sanctuary at StoneCrow Estates. Having no other choice, Ella accepts the offer and flees to Montana.
When Ella is hired as Gauge’s assistant, he instantly recognizes the telltale signs of someone living a lie. Little Ms. Garret is not what she seems and, as a Sentry for the Estate, it is Gauge’s duty to find out just what it is she’s hiding. The problem is that part of Gauge’s dream life included claiming his mate. With his attention focused on his unwitting assistant, he’s drawn to her and before either of them can stop it, the Skin Walker affliction hits. Ella might hide from herself and those around her, but she won’t hide from her mate even if he has to use her niece to force Ella’s submission.
Gauge Skin Walkers Book 8 edition by Susan Bliler Leiah Cooper Paranormal Romance eBooks
Ella is Gauge's accounting assistant and she doesn't want to draw attention to herself so she tries to hide by dressing down in her appearance. Gauge sees right through that and wants to know about the woman beneath. Ella has secrets; she's been on the run for five years. She doesn't trust Gauge enough to tell him about her problems and this situation seems to drag on and on. Later in the story when he finally forces her to tell him her secrets, the first thing he does when he gets pissed off at her is threaten to take her daughter Alysa from her. At this point, she lowers herself by offering him sex so that he won't take her daughter away. Now he wonders how many times with other men she has offered the same thing to save her child. So much for trust! And of course, she supposedly turns out to be a virgin. I don't know if I like him that much. When he gets angry, he's very threatening. He forces her into marriage by threats. He handled the whole situation with Ella wrong. Especially if this is the woman he wants as his angel and wants her to trust him. It didn't seem like they got along at all. It took a child to tell them to listen and admit their love for each other. The story ends without him telling Ella that he had removed the threat from her life and that she no longer had to look over her shoulder.Product details

Gauge Skin Walkers Book 8 edition by Susan Bliler Leiah Cooper Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Was this story the best in the series? No. But it was okay.
I'm not as upset as other reviewers have been over a few moments.
I think my biggest problem was my inability to get a bead on Ella as a person. One minute she's attracted to Gauge and the next she's sick at the idea of a wedding night. One minute she's appreciating the security of Stonecrow and the next she's trying to run away. I felt like Ella could have been incredible but was so all over the place and sometimes silly that it was distracting. It just made it hard to connect with her.
Also, can we not address the fact that Jenny is severely screwing with people's emotions by messing with the afflictions. I get trying to protect Angels and maybe wanting the walkers to fall for them before claiming. But at this point it's causing hurt and confusion for walkers who are doubting their instincts and angels who think they aren't their man's "one." How crappy is it to toy with people like that??
Susan has once again, given us a world of yummy Alpha Males with a heart of gold and a passion for their Angels. Gauge is a level 4 Skin Walker, whose able to shift into more advanced animals than the other Walkers, who isn't looking for his Angel or any other ties for that matter. But when his new secretary comes in wearing strong perfume and clothes to hide her beauty, he can't help but be a little intrigued. (And irritated at her for making him this way to begin with.) Ella is a woman on the run with a 5 year old kidnapped girl named Alysa. She has a friend at StoneCrow Wildlife Preserve and Rehabilitation Facility that has gotten her a job as a secretary there. Ella is tired of running and is hoping that she has finally found a place she can stay and give a better life to Alysa. But with the knowledge of knowing who and what resides at the facility, she is having a hard time avoiding and masking her lies. The more she tries to cover, the more Gauge is getting suspicious and is determined to figure her out. Will Gauge cause Ella to take off running again? Or will Ella actually be what Gauge is looking for whether he wants it or not? This and a few other things fill up this 6th book in the Skin Walker series.
I love the way Susan has the ability to grab your attention from the get go and keep it. This book, along with all the others in the series, will make you wanting more when you finish the last word on the last page.
What kept me from giving this a "5" star review is that a couple of times the names Ella and Elysa were mixed up in the writing. At first I thought I had misread them, but after rereading the sentences a couple of times, I realized it was a grammatical error in the writing. The other thing that still confuses me a little bit is the order in which these books are released. We were told by the Author that they are released as she writes them. Although this is understandable and keeps us from waiting longer on their release; I would greatly appreciate some sort of blurb that explains a little bit at the beginning of the book or at the area in which that particular character is being mentioned. (Like what should be written? I honestly don't know. lol But maybe a warning so we aren't surprised or confused when we get there.) An example of what I am talking about There will be a little something mentioned about a character that has an Angel that we haven't read yet. And that seriously throws me for a loop and causes me to step outside the story.
Overall, I still really liked this story, do recommend it and I am anxiously awaiting another Skin Walker release. Preferably York! MMmmmm... I do suggest you read the other books as well. Once Susan has them all out, I will definitely be rereading them again. They are really that good. Also, if you haven't read it yet, try out her Territory series. There is a little preview of the 3rd book in that series at the end of this one. WOO HOO! Enjoy!!
I did not care for this story (I have enjoyed previous books in the series). I found the storyline repetitive and boring but my main issue was the recurring treatment and lack of respect Ella was treated with.
there never seemed to be conversation between two main characters...he demanded, bullied, pushed, and threatened. I did not feel as if Ella was ever treated as the responsible adult that she was. I have made it to about 75% and have to put it away. Too frustrating and depressing. Doubt if I will ever finish it
This story I have been waiting on for a long time. I loved Guage in the other books. This made me angry with him in so many ways, he became one of my least favorite walkers. I don't want to go into to much detail without giving the story away. But he threatened her and sexually embarrassed her in the worst ways. And Monroe. I used to have a lot of love and respect for him. After this story, i wanted to put a bullet in him. He torchered a severely wounded innocent near death girl for information for 2 hours, not caring if she died. Then he talks about forced breeding. And threatens so much more depriving things. This is no Dom. This is a man becoming a leader who readers grow to hate and become the villain. I now hate Monroe's character and I severely do not think Guage should have been her mate. They were not right for each other. She deserved better. I never saw a connection. I did not like this book. I hope the next will be better. And Monroe has some serious making up to do to become the walker I respect and love again.
